PARTICIPATE IN THE NATIONWIDE ACTION
“PUBLISH THE ERA”
The Nationwide Action “Inside Out – Publish the ERA” aims to bring the history and conversation about the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) to streets across the USA. Participants of all ages, backgrounds, and identities are encouraged to express the change they want to see in their country and uphold shared values of liberty, equality, and justice for all regardless of sex or gender. Through this Action, EQUAL MEANS EQUAL invites the public to participate in a countrywide call for equality.
The Inside Out Project is a platform that helps communities around the world stand up for what they believe in and spark global change locally through works of public art. The Nationwide Action “Inside Out – Publish the ERA” aims to educate and activate the American public around publication of the Equal Rights Amendment, which is fully ratified, and guarantees all Americans equal rights and protections, regardless of sex. Yet, today the ERA has still not been published as the 28th Amendment, spurring an important legal and policy debate that gains urgency with each passing month.
Through displaying larger-than-life black-and-white portraits, participants of all ages, backgrounds, and identities are encouraged to express the change they want to see in their country and uphold shared values of liberty, equality, and justice for all regardless of sex or gender. Together, the portraits will form a visual petition that urges the President of the United States to make the call to officially publish the ERA.
This summer, the EQUAL MEANS EQUAL Team invites the public to participate by taking their portrait and joining the nation-wide call for equality. You can add your face to this movement remotely by submitting your portrait online or bring the Project to your community by creating your own Group Action! And keep your eyes open, the Inside Out Photobooth Truck may just be coming to your town!
SUBMIT YOUR PORTRAIT
Add your face to the call to publish the ERA! By submitting your portrait below, your image will be transformed into a giant black-and-white poster that will be pasted alongside hundreds of other portraits to create public art installations across the USA.
Portrait Guidelines
We recommend having someone else take your portrait using a phone’s rear camera (not in selfie mode) or a higher resolution camera. Make sure you are well lit or use flash.
Step 1 – Stand in front of a white background. (Check that your face is well illuminated)
Step 2 – Make sure the camera lens is focused on your face and you are centered in the frame.
Step 3 – Be expressive! (Keep in mind that your image will be cropped at the shoulders. If your hands or props are not close to your face, they will be cropped out)
Here are the rules:
- Only human faces (no pets or animals).
- No camera filters
- No sunglasses.
- Only one person per portrait.
- No brands or logos.
- All participants must sign an Image Rights Assignment Form. (Minors must have the form signed by their legal guardian.)
PARTICIPATE WITH YOUR COMMUNITY:
CREATE A GROUP ACTION
Want to rally your local community around publishing the ERA? You can create your own installation in your city by taking portraits of at least 50 people (local community members, neighbors, friends, family) and submitting them through the Inside Out website. The Inside Out team will then transform the images into black-and-white posters that will be shipped back to you to paste in the streets of your community.
